The benefits of our charity shops

For every 10 carrier bags of unwanted clothes you donate to our shops we can:

  • Provide one more low-cost veterinary treatment for a pet at our clinic
    and
  • Save your local authority over £1 on the cost of disposing of rubbish
    and
  • Give a shop volunteer the chance to learn useful skills to help them get into employment

We can offer work experience placements at our charity shops at 188 Mill Road, Cambridge and 61 Burleigh Street, Cambridge. Activities there are varied and can include:

  • Use of the till.
  • Sorting and cleaning donated items
  • Internet searches to establish the value of donated books
  • Use of the internet to place items for online sales
  • Answering telephone queries.

Income from our shops is vital to our continued ability to help animals and by working there volunteers make a real contribution to the welfare of animals and their owners. Charity shops also play a valuable part in reducing the environmental impact of clothing and textiles by increasing the amount of clothing which is recycled or re-used. They encourage re-use of items such as video tapes and saucepans which not only add to landfill, but also damage the machinery used to sort municipal waste, causing expensive downtime and repairs.

If you are interested in a work experience placement or just volunteering, please phone 01223 312 802 (for Cambridge) or 01638 662 053 or drop in at 188 Mill Road, Cambridge CB1 3LP or 61 Burleigh Street, Cambridge, CB1 1DJ and ask to speak to the manager. You can call in any day at the Cambridge shops, but Saturdays are best at Newmarket. Alternatively, write to the shop manager at the shop where you would like to work.
