RSPCA Cambridge & District Branch
Health and Safety Policy
1.
Introduction
This policy applies to
all Branch employed staff and volunteers. A copy of the policy is posted in the
premises for reference. It is supplemented by a comprehensive Health and Safety
Manual which outlines in detail the administrative arrangements for Health and
Safety within the Branch and the procedures to be followed in order to minimise
health and safety risks.
This Manual is available for reference by managers,
staff and volunteers. It is reviewed regularly to take account of changes.
Urgent health and safety instructions are dealt with by separate memoranda and
incorporated into the manual at the review.

Policy Statement
a.
The Branch will ensure
so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of all members of
staff and volunteers and also exercise its duty of care in respect of the
health and safety of all persons visiting Branch premises (e.g. contractors,
members of the public).
The Branch requires the full co-operation of members
of staff and others in meeting these objectives.
b.
The Branch will comply
with all relevant legislation which is designed to ensure good standards of
health and safety at work.
c.
The Branch will ensure,
so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and healthy working conditions, safe
plant and equipment and systems of work. Appropriate protective equipment and
clothing will be provided to minimise risks where these are unavoidable. The
Branch will provide such information, training and supervision as are necessary
to ensure health and safety at work.
d.
Responsibility for
health and safety at work within the Branch and its workplaces lies ultimately
with the Branch Chairman and Committee. He/she delegates responsibility for the
overall organisation and
administration of health and safety to the Manager of the premises (who may
work on a voluntary basis).
Day-to-day responsibility for health and safety in
the workplace lies with the Manager, his or her deputy and members of staff and
volunteers themselves.
